They took the teeth out of the bill I suppose to get it passed but it's useless. When SB74 passed out of the Senate 3/3/25, the librirans lost immunity for having harmful materials accessible for minors. In the House. Judiciary Committee, it was amended, Immunity is threatened, but not removed. Library systems will have to go through a review training (does not apply to schools, usually they have a policy regarding challenged books and they will be urged to update their policies if this is passed). If a book is challenged, then the will go through the process. If the book is determined harmful and needs to be removed, but the libririan refuses to remove it, then immunity is revoked and the libririan can be charged. The bill passed by the Senate is a much more preferred and protective bill, especially of elementary aged children, but there is still some leeway in that one as well (they will argue "good faith" and walk). That was my point. If a policy in a school goes through the school board for removal, those schools with blue school boards will do nothing and the book will stay. At least that's my fear. I tried to find the policy for challenging a book in Gwinnett and came up empty. They probably make it hard to find for a reason. I sure you know though.
