A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Subpart 2 of Part 1 of Article 16 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to compulsory attendance, so as to provide that certain students be excused from school for participating in certain officially sanctioned visits to the state capitol; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

This is to excuse Girl Scout troops to go to the Capitol and miss school My question is why does this need to be codified. Really schools can't see the value. I assume its about compulsory attendance, but this is just stupid to me. Bill could be expanded or applied to other types of civic engagement; having unintended consequences. Would rather take the unexcused absence, even though it is an educational day.
