Education; utilize weapon detection systems in certain school buildings; require local boards of education and other public school governing bodies
A BILL to be entitled an Act to amend Article 27 of Chapter 2 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to loitering at or disrupting schools, so as to require local boards of education and other public school governing bodies to utilize weapon detection systems to aid in the prevention of any individual attempting to unlawfully possess or carry a weapon in certain school buildings; to provide for exceptions; to authorize the use of funding; to provide for a definition; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

Sounds great in theory but not in practice. They do not address how they are going to pay for this effort. It will be very expensive for schools with multiple entrances and exits, for example. This is not based on data, it's based on emotion. Many schools have trailers, which is a safety issue in itself-what about the safety of those kids? They should be the priority over the weapons detectors. I would challenge Mr. Efstration to show the data to support the dollars needed to implement this in the elementary schools.
